Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority

The Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority (MVRTA) serves the northeast corner of Massachusetts with over 1 million miles of city, suburban, interurban and rural scheduled bus routes. Bordered on the north and east by the state of New Hampshire and the Atlantic Ocean, MVRTA bus service is provided in Andover, Amesbury, Haverhill, Lawrence, Merrimac, Methuen, Newburyport and North Andover. The Authority also provides service to the Robert B. Kennedy Transfer Station for connections with the Lowell Regional Transit Authority. MVRTA bus service allows residents of the Merrimack Valley to commute to work, school, run errands, travel to shopping centers and stores, MBTA Commuter Rail Stations and to recreational destinations.

The MVRTA also provides a Commuter Bus service to and from Boston on weekdays. The MVRTA also provides subscription services called Ring & Ride in some of the cities and towns in the Merrimack Valley.

The MVRTA operates Monday through Saturday, however all services do not operate on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents' Day, Patriots' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Route 51 Bus Schedule

Route 51 is a Haverhill based route that operates out of the Washington Square Transit Station. Service operates 6 days a week and operates from 6:00 AM to 7:41 PM on weekdays and on Saturdays from 8:55 AM to 7:22 PM. This route provides transportation to customers traveling to and from Haverhill, Amesbury, Merrimac and Newburyport with locations including:

Seasonal Service to Salisbury and Hampton Beaches

Route 83 Bus Schedule

Route 83 is a Lawrence based bus route that operates out of the Buckley Transportation Center in Lawrence. This service operates only during July and August. This bus also makes stops at the Loop in Methuen and the Washington Square Transit Station in Haverhill en route to Salisbury and Hampton beaches. The full fare each way to Salisbury Beach is $2.00 and $3.00 to Hampton Beach. MVRTA 31 Day passes are also valid for use on the Route 83 bus.

EZ Trans – Office of Special Services

The Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority (MVRTA) Office Of Special Services provides paratransit service to persons with disabilities who are not able to use the fixed route bus service and to persons who are 60 years of age or older. These services are called Non-ADA and ADA EZ Trans services. Brief descriptions and links to complete information in downloadable PDF format are below. ADA EZ Trans Services are provided to those persons with disabilities that meet the definition of eligibility as established under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This definition relates to the physical or cognitive impairments that prevent use of the MVRTA’s fixed route bus system. All participants must be certified through the MVRTA Office of Special Services. This service is only available within the three-quarter mile corridor on each side of an MVRTA fixed bus route.

Non-ADA EZ Trans Services are provided to those persons who are 60 years of age or older and to persons who meet the eligibility criteria established under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that are requesting service beyond the three-quarter mile corridor on each side of an MVRTA fixed bus route. All participants must be certified through the MVRTA Office of Special Services.
