Tax Work-off Program
The Merrimac Senior Tax Work-off Program is designed to:
1. Assist senior citizens with relief on property tax bills.
2. Increase involvement of senior citizens in municipal government and the               school system.
3. Improve municipal services by using the skills of senior Citizens.
Eligibility:
1. Must be 65 or older
2. Resident of Merrimac
3. Homeowner & residing at the property for which relief in requested
        Income
4. Income: $20,000 (Individual), $25,000 (Married)
        (Those who meet income eligibility requirements will be given first                     consideration)
5. Assets (Resources) $40,000 (Indvidual) or $55,000 (Married)
       (Does not include Home/land)
6. One per household
        (Present copy of current Merrimac Tax notice upon application to the            program)

Income Guidelines:
1. Minimum Wage ($8 per hour, Total of 93.75 hours)
2. Maximum rebate of $750 per fiscal year (less Federal Tax) per household
3. Number of participants is determined by the amount of funds available

Selection Process:
1. Applicant must meet eligibility requirements.
2. Applicant must have appropriate skills for position.
3. Applicant and department head must both agree it is an appropriate match.
4. Jobs will be offered on qualification, availability, location, transportation and           physical limition for some jobs.
5. Filing an application does not guarantee a placement.

General Program Information:
1. Program year begins with the new Fiscal Year on July 1 and ends on June 30.
2. Applicants must re-apply annually to continue in program; accepatance is not      gauranteed.
3. An abatement certificate will be awarded to participants for the fall tax bill for all     hours worked in the previous Fiscal Year (July 1-June 30).

How to Apply:
1. Call for application to be mailed or stop in and request a form.
2. Mail or Drop off application to:  Merrimac Senior Center
                                                        100 East Main Street
                                                        Merrimac, MA 01860

Deadline:
Applications may be turned in throughout the year, but no later than the 3rd       week in June in order to process and begin program July 1 of the new Fiscal       Year.
