The Senior Center offiers a variety of Activities:
Senior Center Programs & Activities
  • Pool/Billiards: Generally open for games 8 a.m. thru 12-Noon, N/C
  • Lunch: Monday thru Thursday, 12 noon, "homecooked" meals ($2.50), Bob Marshall, cook
  • Transportation: Van and NEET (Northern Essex Elder Transport)
                Rides with the Van is provided M-T-W, by reservation for medical appointements,         grocery shopping, the Senior Center and local hair appointments  Call the Senior Center         978-346-9549.  48 hour minimum notice is required for local trips, 1 week for Boston,           Peabody or Burlington, etc. Costs vary depending on roundtrip mileage: $.43 per mile.
                NEET volunteer drivers provide rides for seniors Monday thru Friday by reservation      (same rules apply as for Van service) $.43 per mile.
  • Trips: Friends of the Merrimac COA "MerriMacs"sponsor regularly scheduled trips to Mohegan Sun & Foxwood; day trips and overnight trips with Best of Times, Card Tours, Paragon & Yankee Lines.  WorldwideTrips and cruises planned Collette Vacations and with Premier Word Discovery, & Tours of Distinction.  For more information or destination interests/requests call Joyce Gariepy or Laura Mailman at 978-346-9549.

  • Amesbury Playhouse- Free Shows (call for schedule)
  • Volunteer Opportunities: Receptionists,Drivers, kitchen and dining room aides, volunteer chefs and more.  To become a volunteer, call Sandy Blanchet at 978-346-9549.
  • TRIAD: Essex County Sheriff's Department working with municipal departments and seniors to provide safety programs such as "Is Your Number Up" (house number), The File of Life (health information for first responders, kept on refrigerator door), the Yellow Dot (health information for first responders, kept in glove compartment of car), etc. Meetings generally held on 2nd Monday of month at 9 a.m.
  • Friends of the Council on Aging: Raise funds to support activities and programs for seniors in the community, they work closely with the staff and board of the Council on Aging/Senior Center. Meetings: First Wednesday of Month at 1:30 p.m., Senior Center Library.
  • Senior Scramble Golf Tournament (next Tournament is Tuesday, August 3, 2010; 7:45 a.m. shotgun start) This is the biggest fundraiser for the Friends!
