Winter Parking Ban

Per Merrimac Town Bylaw Article VI, Section XII: Motor vehicles are prohibited from parking in any street or highway for more than one (1) hour from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM, from November 15th to April 1st.

Pay parking tickets by mail or at the Selectmen's Office Mon.-Fri. 8:00AM-3:00 PM or pay online at www.payparkingfine.com

Late fees will accrue after 21 days of issue date.  If your ticket has resulted in non-renewal at the RMV you can either pay the ticket at the Selectmen's Office during regular business hours or pay online.  If paid online, it generally clears at the RMV that business day.

Appeal Process

M.G.L Chapter 90 §20A ½ allows individuals to appeal unpaid parking tickets within 21 days from the date the ticket was issued by completing a Parking Ticket Appeal Form. The appeal must include the name and address of the person appealing the ticket, the name and address of the registered owner of the vehicle if it is not the same, and the reason for the appeal. The appeal must include any evidence, diagrams or documentation supporting the appeal.

Once the Parking Clerk receives the parking ticket appeal, the ticket is placed on “hold” and does not accumulate penalties during the duration of the appeal. Under M.G. L. Chapter 90 §20A ½ the Parking Clerk has 21 days to answer any written appeal.

Hearing Process

M.G.L. Chapter 90 §20A ½ allows individuals to appeal unpaid parking tickets within 21 days from the date the ticket was issued. A Person may request a hearing in lieu of written appeal by calling 978-346-8862 and requesting a hearing. Hearings will be held one day a month as determined by the Parking Clerk.

However, an appellant that has been denied on a written appeal may request a hearing to provide any additional evidence not provided with the written appeal.

Decisions made by the Parking Clerk are final. An appellant may appeal a Final Judgment from the Parking Clerk to Newburyport District Court
